WHEN DAD MARRIED FURY

When brothers Ian and Ben return to Sydney for their Father’s 75th birthday in David Williamson’s When Dad Married Fury, they come home to some big surprises. Their Father, worth $100 million, has married ex-beauty queen Fury who is half his age. Without a pre-nup the future of the brothers’ inheritance is uncertain.

Director Denis Moore says one major reason he is attracted to Williamson’s writing is, “He talks about things that are happening in Australia at the moment, that are very contemporaneous… Williamson communicates with audiences on a very genuine level and I think that is a rare thing.”

Moore adds, “The play deals with upper class Aussies who are unsatisfied with everything and want more. It exposes a part of Australian society who are greedy, but also the victims of the greed in a financial system that can go awry, which is often overlooked by people.”

It is the beauty of Williamson’s writing to treat a serious subject with such comedic sensibilities. With a cast headed by John Wood this production is set to be riveting. (ATS)
