Welcome to electionWIRE 2013!

Young people are often accused of being apathetic towards Australian politics but frankly, who could blame us? Australian politics can often seem like a really terrible episode of HBO’s Game of Thrones – far less nudity but just as much backstabbing.  We’re left wondering whether our politicians actually have any plans for our country and disengagement becomes an understandably attractive option…….

But the youth vote represents 12% of the overall vote – a potentially decisive slice of the voting pie. If we don’t get involved in the political conversation and make our voices heard, we make it easy for politicians to ignore what we want.

Through electionWIRE 2013 we want to give young people a reason to care about politics and a way to have our voices heard. We want to cut through all the drama, spin and backstabbing to uncover the policies, issues and debates that actually effect you!

How?

We’ll be producing and bringing together content that talks about the stuff that matters to you and posting this at electionWIRE.net

We’ll use the #electionWIRE  hashtag on Twitter to keep an eye on the hot topics that young people are talking about in the lead up to this year’s election. If you tweet with your location services enabled, you’ll appear on our #electionWIRE talk tracker.  When we see a trending topic, we’ll send our #electionWIRE reporters out to uncover everything you need to know, WITHOUT the bullshit, and bring this straight to you via electionWIRE.net.

So get involved!

1. Get informed by heading over to electionWIRE.net and checking out the content produced and curated by electionWIRE.

2.Let us know your thoughts, comments, questions and ideas by Tweeting #electionWIRE, or posting on our Facebook.
