THE CLOWN

Benjamin was born into the circus, but he is plagued by visions of electric fans. Fans that not only blow away the heat, but also the life of a travelling performer and lead to a future of ID cards and social security numbers. Is the allure of the big smoke really what Benjamin is looking for, or is it something much closer to home?

Although this film is nothing special, it does have some incredibly strong points. Director/actor Selton Mello creates an absurdist fantasy, playing on the beauty of the rural Brazilian landscape.

There are strong performances particularly from Mello himself as Benjamin. Overall The Clown is a cute journey of self-discovery and family loyalty clashing with individual desire. (ATS)
