REVIEW – TREVOR ASHLEY’S STAR STRUCK
No diva was safe from Trevor Ashley in latest show, Star Struck. From Liza Minnelli to Madonna, from Bette Midler to Beyonce and beyond, Ashley was over the top, kitsch and undisputedly gay.
The highlight of the show was the portly drag queen channelling Whitney Houston, needing just one more puff of crack from a glass pipe to make it to the high notes of I Will Always Love You – the entire audience roared with laughter.
Opening night jitters were apparent on the evening. At first it was difficult to hear or understand Ashley over the thundering live band, though this was corrected later in the show.
The wonderful Trevettes, Ryan and Kirby were excellent backups to Trevor’s ample back side. Their vocal talents were impressive and their erotic dancing led to some truly shocking moments.
While yes, Ashley is a drag queen, it is hard to imagine anyone who would not enjoy this homage to some of the greatest divas of all time. (LD)
