NOW YOU SEE ME

NOW YOU SEE ME

Now You See Me is a fun film with a sense of humour. Full of misdirection and magic, the crime thriller follows illusionists The Four Horsemen (Isla Fisher, Woody Harrelson, Jesse Eisenberg and Dave Franco).

The team pull off bank heists during their immensely popular magic shows and reward audiences with the money, all whilst staying seven steps ahead of the FBI and magic debunker Thaddeus Bradley (Morgan Freeman).

The casting choices are up and down, Harrelson is spot on as the scruffy has-been looking for a comeback whereas Eisenberg isn’t quite believable as a roguish ladies man.

Fantastical special effects balance the weaker plot points and to quote Interpol agent Alma Dray (Mélanie Laurent) – “It’s better when things are left unexplained.”

It would be prudent if there were a stronger focus on developing various story arcs and more mystery left in the spelled-out ending. (LL)
