It’s unclear whether Perth outfit Bastian’s Happy Flight hesitated before modeling their band on the sound and aesthetic of 80s synth-pop. Surely one need only consider the likes of Cut Copy, Van She or Architecture in Helsinki before wondering if there’s any room left in the revival movement.
Judging by their new EP Heart/Works it seems they don’t care either way. The hugely fun sampler takes a little bit of Hall & Oates, a little Frankie Goes to Hollywood and a big slab of George Michael and spins it just enough so that it doesn’t sound stale. Sure it’s corny, but they know it. (NH)
