When I die, I want to drown in a bathtub of Saffron. Saffron ($19) by the way is the name of a smooth as silk, superior gin cocktail by Amir Halpert at The Owl House. Sitting across the intimate bar from him, I’m imaging The Owl House as the premium place where (hint, hint boys) I’d like to have a first date. I am however here with my BFF girlfriend, as we ooh and ahh our way through the cocktail list via a food-matched degustation. Now, I’ve had food and cocktail matches before, yet in this collaboration with chef Roy Ner, there is true harmony with both flavour and texture – neither compete, both compliment the other perfectly. We’d started our adventure with a stunning surprise mouthful of 1930s Cosmopolitan, and more surprisingly, the night only got better and better!
