THE RED PAINTINGS – THE REVOLUTION IS NEVER COMING

THE RED PAINTINGS – THE REVOLUTION IS NEVER COMING

An album so vivid it could paint a perfect landscape in your mind. The layers of the sophomore LP from this Victorian band are so intricate that you become immersed in its ironically hostile ambience.

The rough, American-tinged vocals of group founder Trash McSweeney juxtaposed with the soaring violin elements, versatile drumming and hard rock guitar slashing is just phenomenal. It sounds frantic and noisy, yet makes perfect sense.

The Fall Of Rome, a nine-minute epic, has to be the shining beacon. It’s majestic, building up from a slow, somber start to an absolutely thrash-worthy breakdown and then rollercoasters its way to a dream-like end.

It’s a detour from the mainstream, a detour that is so worth it. (CD)
