THE OTHER WAY

“The Other Way is a contemporary Australian story told with humour, music and passion,” says writer and director Stefo Nantsou of his new play which is a partnership between the Sydney Theatre Company and the Bankstown Youth Development Service.

“The structure of the play is bound by the five
Muslim daily prayers, starting at sunrise and ending in the evening to bring these everyday but unique stories about life in Western Sydney alive on stage,” concludes Nantsou.

The play centres around four western Sydney families whose lives become intertwined when a woman loses her children in a large suburban shopping centre during the Muslim holy month of Ramadan. It looks at modern parenting as well as how individuals and families are trying to find their place in Australian society.

“It’s great to be able to share stories of where I grew up. It’s almost our version of a Bollywood film set in Bankstown,” says Sydney’s renowned hip-hop artist Matuse.

Matuse plays the central role, a man trying to keep his faith during a bad losing streak. The Other Way also features a unique ensemble of professional actors, senior student actors from Bankstown schools and community guest performers. (CN)
