Monique diMattina: Travelling up the East coast for one special performance, honourary Melbournite Monique diMattina is set to inject soul unlike any other into Venue 505 – Sydney’s jazzy heartbeat. Launching her fifth album, playfully titled Nola’s Ark, this latest collection focuses on the very human subjects of love, relationships and motherhood in which everyone can find something to relate to. Despite the success of her previous 2010 album titled Welcome Stanger, it seems to many that the follow-up is set in similar stone.

Jagwar Ma: A weird name it may be, but this Sydney trio is gaining a massive amount of momentum. Following a feature album slot on Triple J with their debut rock-tasm Howlin’, as well as finding a firm fan in Oasis legend Noel Gallagher, these boys are set to acquire a few more appreciators with sets at the legendary Glastonbury and Reading & Leeds festivals. Back on native soil, their show at The Standard is a chance to see them in a more intimate setting.

Chvrches: Scotland natives with an impressive array of influences is one of the most accurate ways to describe this musical entity. Lauren Mayberry, Ian Cook and Martin Doherty hold the reigns of Chvrches, fusing together genres such as hip hop, electronica and post-punk to create a sound that is groove influencing and awe-inspiring. The possibility that material from their anticipated debut studio album The Bones of What You Believe will be aired tonight is quite high, so don’t miss out or waiting for the September release may be your fate!

Lisa Gasteen: A combination of an undoubtedly powerful voice and a love-inducing orchestra, Brisbane-born Opera star Lisa Gasteen is finally making her return to our beloved Sydney Symphony. Astounding audiences with her crystal renditions of German composer Wilhelm Wagner, Ms Gasteen will also be belting out classics from Anton Bruckner’s repertoire as she takes time out from her teaching duties at the Queensland Conservatorium Griffith University. In the beautiful theatre of our iconic Opera House, this night will be incredibly magical.
