After composing and producing for young Indigenous artists at his home recording studio, David Bridie has finally found time to release his next solo album Wake.

Coming five years after Succumb (2007), Wake is an eclectic collection of personal songs. The album’s opener Dr Seuss Is Painting in The Sky sets the tone for the album – a dreamy pop number with winks to The Beatles.

From there Bridie traverses subjects such as asylum seekers, the war in Iraq, love and death, yet Wake is never heavy handed; Bridie is deft at weaving his wistful imagery. The result is a textured and thoughtful album. (NH)
