If I told you I was standing around with a bunch of craft brewing company people at the launch of this joint last week, what would you think? The Publican, one of the new venues in the multi-storey hotel, The Eastern, is a specialist beer bar. In fact, they are offering more than 100 craft beers and ciders. Those guys I was hanging out with were, for example, from award winning Feral Brewing Company (Hop Hog took top prize as Critics’ Choice this year). Promoted for beer and jaffles, I also spied spirits and wine on the back bar. No longer the dodgy ‘underage’ hangout, the building has now had a facelift with top to bottom black and white tiles, a sprinkle of vintage kitsch and themed eateries and drinking holes; The Publican is their basement bar.
