The Australian Israeli Cultural Exchange (AICE) is proudly bringing the 10th Israeli Film Festival to Sydney. Co-curator Keith Lawrence says that owing to a renaissance of the film industry, US trained Israeli film crews are now producing better quality films.

“Four Israeli films have received Oscar nominations in the past six years which has spread awareness throughout the world,” Lawrence explains.

“The popularity of Israeli films is definitely on the increase – very much in vogue.”

For the past two years this film festival has been presented Australia-wide even in Byron Bay which further highlights its popularity.

“This year’s films reflect the voice of the youth – their concerns of everyday issues such as the powerlessness of the political situation and having to join the army. These films are edgy and have believable characters displaying their angst and their views,” says Lawrence.

“If you love quality cinema there’s a great diversity of films at the 10th AICE Israeli Film Festival – horror, political and romance. Be challenged and entertained. You’ll be pleasantly surprised.” (MM)
