Urban Food Market Pop-Up

It’s a pop-up, but it’s permanent, at least for the foreseeable future. Ethical fresh food purveyor, Tim Elwin from Urban Food Market, has taken over a popular Chippendale café on Friday and Saturday evenings. It’s a case of multiple businesses fitting together like pieces in a jigsaw. What you’ll be eating are the same ethically produced meats you can buy at Tim’s Marrickville warehouse. Which cut you eat depends on what’s been selling fast to the customers and restaurants he services. Last week it was duck breasts, explaining how I came to be eating an entrée of Slow Braised Duck Maryland ($19) fashioned into a homely filo pastry pie with cleverly disguised Brussels sprouts. Dishes are plain enough to allow the proteins to shine: like Braised Grass-Fed Beef Cheek ($27), a mass of tender beef strands separated by perfectly rendered fat, on a bed of polenta. Stellar leaves makes the Seasonal Salad ($7) stand out; and make sure you try the Shrubs ($8)! They’re adult-style vinegar based cordials (or there’s organic grape juice courtesy of Lark Hill) – perfect to accompany inspirational recipes that you’ve actually got a hope of replicating at home. However with Leigh McDivitt (ex-3 Weeds) taking over the pans, things are about to get more cheffy…
