It’s been 16 years between full-length, non-soundtrack releases for the Glasgow-based pop group, The Pastels. The good news is they’ve retained their unique pop flavourings and have added even more organic, nature-inspired sounds to their creative bubbling pot.
Repeat listens to Slow Summits will open your ears to the complexity of flute arrangements and well-timed trumpet integrations. Sugary melodies contrast with the simple Yo La Tengo-esque vocals of Stephen McRobbie and Katrina Mitchell to glorious effect. Check My Heart is the perfect ‘60s-sounding single with rippling guitars echoing infectious tunes.
