THE GOOD, THE BAD AND THE ETHNIC

Most people would be horrified at the thought of getting up in front of hundreds of people to make them laugh, but not Tahir. He went along to a Comedy Store open mic night and loved it.

“You are not that good when you first kick off but you don’t know that,” Tahir explains. “If comedians knew that, there would be no comedians. You just persevere and get better.”

Since that fateful night, Tahir has found success on TV with the hit SBS Pizza series, as well as Fat Pizza and Housos.

“It’s not bad for recognition but I’m happiest in front of a live audience,” he says.

Tahir’s latest stand-up show The Good, The Bad and The Ethnic features some of his favourite comedic workmates; together again on the stage are Joe Avati, George Kapiniaris (Acropolis Now) and Rob Shehadie (Fat Pizza),“It’s like a reunion,” says Tahir.

This time round though they have changed the format completely, “We’ve introduced sketch, video, audience participation and magic and singing, it’s a variety show.

Tahir laughs, “It’s a sign of the times don’t you think? People want something different every five minutes.” (LL)
