JUDITH LUCY AND DENISE SCOTT – THE SPIRAL

On the phone from a Brisbane hotel, Judith Lucy and Denise Scott are carefree. “We’re both leaning in a rather sexy way,” says Lucy, “and Scottie is looking a little bit Audrey Hepburn”.

After sellout shows around the country, The Spiral tour comes to Sydney. “It’s got everything,” they explain, finishing each other’s sentences. ‘There’s a costume change, dance, stand-up, a bit of audience interaction, two enormous books, so if there’s something you’re not enjoying, it will end quickly and we’ll move on to something else.”

Asked how they like working with each other, there’s an awkward pause. “Um, no we don’t, but we have to. We’ve been forced together by loneliness and desperation. No, actually we do like working together. We hope there’s chemistry – think Starsky and Hutch, Cagney and Lacey.

What of talk that they are “endearingly rude”? “Well, I think I said that,” says Scott. “We are quite racy, a little bit blue.”

“Don’t think that because we aren’t Gen Y, we can’t just get out there and be cutting edge,” adds Lucy.

“We’ve put on extra shows, so hopefully we won’t look foolish. We love you Sydney – and please come, please!” (GW)
