HUNTER VALENTINE – COLLIDE AND CONQUER

HUNTER VALENTINE – COLLIDE AND CONQUER

An album with a name such as this is a very bold promise. Although Ontario trio Hunter Valentine fall slightly short, their effort deserves recognition.

They made a wise decision in taking inspiration from a variety of different avenues rather than just adopting one formula and bludgeoning it to death. The fade of the light symphonic track Lonely Crusade into the foreboding The Pulse is enthralling and shows their capabilities.

Though, Vocalist Kiyomi possesses a voice that is raw, brash and has malignant, punky tones, at times it seems so unfamiliar in its surroundings. The tracks Crying and This Bull Rides Tonight sound unconvincing and slightly cringe-worthy.

A noble effort, but not all there. (CD)
