CORRIDOR

Newtown is where I discovered my new favourite tipple: the official cocktail of New Orleans – The Sazerac. This classic (according to the Corridor list) was originally created in the 1850s with a namesake Cognac – though more usually now you will find it made with rye. The Corridor version is not only excellent, but also cheaper than some other Newtown bars. And tick: bartender Jamie asked me to nominate which rye I preferred, then guided me through their selection with a tasting. Listening to live music in the space upstairs, it slipped down easily. With all the new bar hype in the area it can be easy to overlook existing bars, like this little gem. Don’t. Very good drinks, very good service, very good prices – even better: it’s $10 for cocktails during the 5pm to 7pm happy hour on weekdays.
