APPALLING BEHAVIOUR

APPALLING BEHAVIOUR

Someone who has played an Aussie living homeless on the streets of Paris must be fascinated by grime and dereliction, yeah?

“No it’s more of a fascination for the human condition,” explains playwright and actor, Stephen Homes. “I’m really inspired by the human ability to continue. Without hope or this glimmer of life, I don’t think the play would have been as successful.”

It has certainly been a success.

“I did a reading at a literary event in Adelaide and it kind of just snowballed. I had someone from a government department come and see it and say the play is so incredibly honest, we wanna put some money into it,” says Homes.

“But it didn’t remain there, it straight away jumped into a mainstream theatre production, and sold out in Adelaide. I did twenty shows in Adelaide and ever since then it’s been pretty well on the road.”

“One of the things that keeps me going is that I really believe in this story. Its about segregation and discrimination against the underclass of society and that seems to be getting bigger.” (LC)
