ALEX AND EVE

Alex and Eve is an astute and hilarious exploration of the intricacies of multiculturalism tinged with self-deprecating humour .

Alex is 50 years old and living at home with his Orthodox Greek parents when he meets Eve, a 30 year old Lebanese Muslim, at Establishment. Sparks and complications fly when they fall in love, get married and have a child, much to the dismay of their families.

The production parodies stereotypical Greek and Lebanese family life and is appropriately set in Marrickville and Bankstown. Janette La Kiss as Eve’s mother is a frenetic, hysterical laugh-a-minute, whilst Michael Kazonis as George, Alex’s father, is equally frantic. The interaction between the pair is a highlight of the show.

If you are appalled at the racism and bile currently infecting our society, Alex and Eve will remind you of the joy, absurdity and humanity that binds us together. (LR)
