PHOENIX – BANKRUPT!

Let the opening notes make you feel like you’re in the midst of a Harajuku montage and definitely let the rest of the album make you want to belt out the words and dance until your joints seize up.

This brand new output from the French four-piece Phoenix is their fifth album, it projects catchy lyrics and pleasing synthesised sounds to fit perfectly into today’s indie scene. Maybe just a little too perfectly.

Standout tracks have to go to the instantly recognisable single Entertainment, as well as the rock-dance infused third track S.O.S. In Bel Air. 

It is a beautifully fluent collection, but with all of its up-beat pop-like vibe, a lack of wow-factor fails to push the envelope into a work that is masterful. (CD)
