MAYDAY! THE PLAYWRIGHTS’ FESTIVAL

“It’s exciting to have established and acclaimed playwrights sharing the stage with emerging ones,” says Festival Director Jeremy Waters of Mayday! The Playwrights’ Festival.

The special three week program of short-form theatre works features 20 recognised actors, 16 talented writers and 12 acclaimed directors such as Kate Gaul and Anthony Skuse in a unique program intended to showcase some of Australia’s best modern writers.

“We’re looking to energise, encourage and empower the next generation of well-known Australian playwrights with the Playwrights Festival this year,” concludes Waters.

There will be a series of unforgettable characters presented as intimate monologues by some of the 7-On Playwrights collective, as well as numerous Phillip Parsons Playwrights Award winners such as Hilary Bell, Jonathan Gavin and Maxine Mellor.

The final week will showcase the playwriting and directing debut of AFI award winner Nicholas Hope, famous for his incredible performance in the iconic film Bad Boy Bubby. (CN)
