MAGNUM ON SET

For over 60 years photographers of Magnum Photographic Co-operative, have witnessed and recorded some of the greatest moments in cultural history since 1947. Magnum on Set is an exhibition now open in the State Library as part of the Head On Photo Festival.

The exhibition is dedicated to behind-the-scenes moments in Hollywood history from some of the most iconic films ever made. Photographs include stars like James Dean and Katharine Hepburn in films such as Billy Wilder’s The Seven Year Itch and Charlie Chaplin’s Limelight.

The exhibition manages to capture the human element involved with the Hollywood film industry, one that is often lost behind the endlessly reproduced glossy perfection that is churned out. Images like Marilyn Monroe looking fragile against a sparse Nevada desert as she rehearses lines on the set of The Misfits are what makes this exhibition so enthralling and touching.

Make sure if you get along to this exhibition that you check in on Facebook as there is a chance to win a James Dean contact sheet courtesy of Magnum. (ATS)
