CAVALIA

For the best part of a decade, the world’s largest touring tent has hosted the magical world of Cavalia. Largely referred to as a horse ballet it is actually a unique performance that marries the equestrian arts with stage arts and high-tech theatrical effects never before seen. Creator, Artistic Director and Cirque du Soleil co-founder Normand Latourelle explains, his thick French accent lilting, “We are one of a kind and actually that is why we create that word ‘Cavalia’ because there was no word to describe what the show is about.

“For me it is Cavalia, it is nothing you can compare with and obviously I don’t think horse are good ballet dancer but they are dancer.”

It is an enormous undertaking travelling the world with 45 horses and 40 performing artists, so the audience can safely raise their expectations through the big top.

“When something becomes impossible this is where I start to work… this is where we make the impossible become possible,” explains Latourelle. “It is not always easy but the result is pretty phenomenal because for the audience, they get to see something they never witness anywhere else in the world.”

Overall Latourelle says, “This show is a lot about dreaming. It’s a feel-good show… people need that.” (LL)
