BROADWAY BABY: SYDNEY GAY AND LESBIAN CHOIR
Calling all lovers of theatre, musicals, sing-alongs, and show business: Broadway Baby is coming to town! This bright musical ensemble features the Sydney Gay & Lesbian Choir, the Royal Australian Navy Band and legendary Aussie performer Simon Burke – recognisable from Play School to his breathtaking performances on the London Stage in The Sound Of Music, The Phantom Of The Opera and many more.
Simon describes the show as a “great big trip through Broadway”, with two hours of highlights from all the classics, including Rent, Les Misérables, Carousel and Hairspray. “Everyone loves to have heroes, and some people get that from seeing a Broadway musical done unbelievably well. It’s incredibly fun [and] it reaches into the real gut of human emotions. It makes you laugh, it makes you cry.”
Simon is no stranger to musicals, having worked in TV, film, theatre and the music industry. “The challenge of great theatre is to keep it relevant to an up-and-coming generation, because at the end of the day, there is nothing like watching something happen before your eyes.
