Last week the cream of the music industry gathered at the Beach Road Hotel for the 2013 Rolling Stone Music Awards. The awards were sponsored by Patrón Tequila which ensured the crowd were dazzled with an abundance of killer drinks, from the opening Patrón Perfect Margarita presented in a jam jar, to the buzzy Xpresso Martini made on Patrón Café XO coffee liqueur. As Owl Eyes took to the stage, the crowd was treated to cucumber foam-topped shot glasses of Bloody Maria Cabillitos. With Bondi Ink also in residence, one guest took home a (free) tattoo of the Patrón Tequila bee. Here’s hoping it wasn’t a big surprise in the morning…

With January slipping out of our grasp faster than I’d like to admit, you’ve only got until Monday 28th to get in some drinking at the Sydney Opera House’s latest precinct. Head for the astroturfed playground surrounded by shipping crate tables with a sandy circle we dubbed the Bennelong Point Beach. You’ll find a pop-up El Loco cantina plus margaritas and banana coconut slushies. Upstairs there’s a champagne and cocktail bar with a The Great Gatsby theme. It seems the carnival has arrived!

Not being one for patriotism or (as it seems to have become) bogan-pride, you won’t see much of me on ‘Straya Day. I am however a little tempted to go eat the Aussie Coat of Arms on a burger at Grill’d. Yep, we’re talking a lean kangaroo and emu patty decked out with native thyme mayo, beetroot (it’d be un-Australian without it), quandongs and bush tomato relish. They’re on the menu from now until the 31st January. Get in quick just fifty ‘swallow-your-pride’ burgers are available each day at Grill’d World Square. grilld.com.au/CoA

Paddington’s One Moncur have added another reason to revisit besides more Champagne – a range of sophisticated high teas ($39-$59/person)! Perhaps set to rival The Victoria Room’s ever-popular tea service, this is another quirky (adult) space where you can sit back and enjoy alcoholic drinks against an array of tiny sandwiches filled with blue swimmer crab and coriander mayonnaise, poached chicken with almonds and crème fraîche, and classic cucumber! Of course there will also be sweet treats – from scones with strawberry conserve and Chantilly cream, to Sydney’s current darling, the ubiquitous macaron – great I’m told with Veuve Cliquot Ponsardin Brut NV. Gather up a posse of your lady friends!
