My 2013 New Year’s resolution is to keep my bra on in public. FYI the pink satin and black lace bra that hangs above the Emmilou bar is mine. Guess the bra size and owner Chris Cranswick-Smith will shout you a tequila (and probably drink one with you – he loves the stuff!) Or tag the glossy red wall with the white texta to leave your mark (I’ve done that too “>> freefall << @frombecca xx”. Bet you can’t guess what that’s about.) The real business of course is the booze and the tapas. My friends and I like to sit at the bar, chitchat and sip cocktails; Kylie was taken with the Burnt Pineapple Daiquiri (and once she starts she can’t stop.) We can also highly recommend the wines: by the glass or Emmilou’s Top Shelf selection on the mirror.

That’s amore: when your industry friends give you the nod on a place you know it’s gotta be good. So I finally made it to the wine shop (cantina) and adjoining bar (enoteca) that imports the Italian wines served in many of our better Sydney restaurants. Mostly they’re natural wines: biodynamic and by the glass – on a blackboard wine menu which changes monthly – with a list that represents all the regions of Italy. The bar name acknowledges wine history, by using the year when it was reputed that wine was first made. 121 BC doesn’t take bookings but it is worth trying your luck to get a stool at the long bar – or turn up by opening time for the first sitting. Wine tastes all the better in the appropriate Riedel varietal glass.
