THE SHARE

“Dynamic, visceral and extreme emotionally and physically,” says director Corey McMahon of award-winning Australian playwright Daniel Keene’s The Share.

“I’d never seen a play like this before in my life where there’s no hiding in the dark or holding back.”

The Share follows the story of two young men, Tex (Thomas Conroy) and Sugar (Scott Marcus), who have grown up on the streets together. They’re broke, bored and looking for trouble.

Following a tip from a mysterious one-eyed youth, they plan a brutal attack on a drug dealer and his dog.

What follows is a one-hour, breathtakingly violent rollercoaster ride of fast physical theatre performed with a live score.

The Share explores the escalating violence and cruelty in the relationship between the two men. The fresh new cast were willing to explore the darker side of society, says McMahon.

“The actors showed a willingness to excavate and explore the darkness and conflict that bubbles under the surface of relationships,” continues McMahon.

“Thomas Conroy’s Tex has a steady assuredness about him but in contrast, Scott Marcus’ Sugar is like a young pup full of nervous energy.”
