‘VIBENATION’ AT SURRY HILLS

Surry Hills will be host to an array of art this month, with the annual Surry Hills Festival in full swing.

The day long Festival will see art instillations, site specific works, exhibitions and performances on October 27.

“We are really excited about the expansive program of music and arts and entertainment at this years Surry Hills Festival,” Festival Director Matt Grant said. “Prince Alfred Park will be transformed. There’s something for all the family, for kids, cycling fans, arts enthusiasts, dog lovers, food fanatics, thrifty shoppers and music lovers. Everyone is in for a treat.”

The day will host numerous musical performances, including upcoming hip hop band True Vibenation, having appeared on Triple J as their ‘Hip Hop Album of The Week’. The band will entertain crowds with blasting horns and beat-making.

“We’re stoked to be playing Surry Hills Festival this year, alongside what we reckon is one of the best musical line-ups we’ve ever seen at the Festival,” band member Native Wit said. “I just hope they let us on the jumping castles.”

The True Vibenation trio use two turntables and a microphone for a show seeing them transform into a blasting horn section and live beat-making band. Each member also handles writing and production duties.

Festivalgoers can also witness a Frida Kahlo tent city, a tribute to the Beatles-esque 60s. Sydney’s street artists will create works on the spot and a 3D pop up story book will be on show tackling pressing environmental issues.

“The best bit about it all is that the Festival supports the key work of the Surry Hills Neighbourhood Centre in providing vital services for the Surry Hills Community,” Mr Grant said. “Festival goers get to experience a community festival, but with a level of production that they would normally pay a significant amount for.

“All we ask is for a note donation; amazing value.”

Headlining the musical lineup are Tijuana Cartel, along with monolithic pop rock group, Fire! Santa Rosa.

Sydney’s FBi Radio are among this year’s Festival partners and broadly support the community initiative.

An FBi spokesperson said: “FBi Radio is proud to support this year’s Surry Hills Festival and participate in a great community event that enables the Surry Hills Community Centre to continue to provide services, and play its vital role as a community hub.” (GF)
