CIRCUS OZ: FROM THE GROUND UP

CIRCUS OZ: FROM THE GROUND UP

For over three decades, the team that is Circus Oz have been bringing to audiences a delightfully Australian, animal free, family friendly extravaganza of circus arts and entertainment. Their new show, From The Ground Up, promises to be no exception.

The directors create a theme for each body of work, this time utilising an elaborate ‘construction’ aesthetic. The challenge that comes with building structures is communicated via the set design. The performers then utilise the set to tell their death-defying and awe-inspiring story.

“The show is very interactive,” says acrobat Stevee Mills, who has been with the troupe since 2011.

Along with juggling, magic, clowning, acrobatics, aerial, teeter board and tight wire walking, Circus Oz has a live band ensemble accompanying the two hour performances.

“There really is something for everyone.”

With the principles of collective ownership, gender equality and the Australian signature of teamwork at the heart of the circus, the feats these artists and acrobats accomplish require a huge amount of trust and bonding.

“We are a big family of 13 performers,” the gymnast-cum-Bachelor of Circus Arts graduate continues.

“We travel together, work together and each of us brings a special feature to the shows.” (IB)
