Foley Lane

For fifty dollars in Foley Lane you’ll be well satisfied,” Nathan Moses quips. For a derivatives trader, he makes a pretty fly bar owner. He’s opened this clinically stylish newcomer with his “forever” friend, Julian Marchetto. It’s well considered, down to table height that suits both sitting and leaning; and staffed by a crack team of experts. There’s Nelson Burgos who cooked at Melbourne it-restaurant, Mamacita, and two ex-Ivy boys designing drinks. Last night’s invention, The Taylor Square Spice ($18), absolutely thrills with Singleton 12 year single malt, spiced apple, chilli and house-made paprika syrup. Throw in a starter of Nelson’s three-hour braised WA Octopus with Lime Mayo ($9) and you’re grinning! Menu prices allow for an air of experimental abandon, so try the Tongue and Cheek Slider with Ghost Chilli Mayo ($4). As the boys insist, tender tongue is just “like a meaty bacon.” Spicy, cider-braised Longaniza with Pimento ($14) go gangbusters with Nelson’s clever Cabbage, Mint and Feta Salad ($7). The Pamela ($18), a cooling concoction of cucumber, lime and Tanqueray Ten, will put your mouth back together. Skip Sangria ($35/L) in favour of a smooth Spanish red, Coto de Hayas ($10/glass), before a gently minted Catalan Flan ($8) seals your blossoming love of small bars with a kiss.
