FAT AS BUTTER LINEUP ANNOUNCED

FAT AS BUTTER LINEUP ANNOUNCED

It’s good thing nineties-style midriff tops and chunky black boots are the current uniform festival wear. This year, Newcastle’s annual Fat As Butter Festival has taken a different approach in assembling their all-important line up for their September festival. Whilst headliners Good Charlotte are sure to divide festival-goers there is a nice variety in  this Festival recipe, which is sure to please even the most ardent dislikers of Joel Madden’s role on The Voice. Representing the 90s and early 2000s are Whetus (responsible for the 90s anthem Teenage Dirtbag), and perhaps in an echo of the recent boy-band resurgence, Eiffel 65 the English popgroup whose five year reign gave us those eternal lyrics ‘I’m blue da ba dee da ba die…” On the dance side of things, N-Trance will be there pose their take on Rod Stewart’s 34 year-old-question Da Ya Think I’m Sexy? next to the Yacht Club DJs, and dubstep shufflers Shockone and Dr Werewolf.

But Fat as Butter isn’t limited to some nineties demi-heros and sick beats. There is also a proud serving of homegrown rising talent. Triple J’s 2009 Unearthed High winners Hunting Grounds (formerly Howl) will perform alongside year-old soul-stirrers The Rubens and Hungry Kids of Hungary. Add a splash of hip hop – Seth Sentry, 360 and Urthboy, a dash of classic Aussie rock (Grinspoon) and beat all with the electric violin of American alt-rockers Yellowcard. Mix all together and leave to set on the foreshore of Newcastle harbour under a warm spring sun, and Fat As Butter has certainly set a fine standard for the launch of the Australian music festival season.
