THE CHRONICLES OF NARNIA

THE CHRONICLES OF NARNIA

While Harry Potter die-hards may still be mourning the recent closure of the Powerhouse Museum’s high-profile exhibition, the movie-inspired magic is far from over.

The Chronicles of Narnia, a state-of-the-art ‘edutainment’ exhibition based on the much-loved Narnia book series, opened last week in the cavernous space. The seven books that make up the chronicles, featured on this year’s Permier’s Reading Challenge, have sold over 100 million copies worldwide, been translated into some 47 languages, and spawned a blockbuster film series, which has provided some of the items on display at the Powerhouse.

Entering the exhibition space, visitors are appropriately greeted by the famed wardrobe doors, making their way through racks of lush fur coats to emerge – lightly covered in snow – inside the mythical land. Although it struggles to rival the spread of the Potter show, Narnia is sure to enchant kids and fans alike with its collection of movie memorabilia, interactive displays (including a working catapult!), costumes, models and videos. As an added bonus it’s educational too, exploring the impact of humanity on our climate and environment through the film.

Until Aug 26, Powerhouse Museum, 500 Harris St, Ultimo, $14-45 (family), 9217 0111, powerhousemuseum.com
