A CAUTIONARY TAIL

A CAUTIONARY TAIL

It’s a long journey from a film’s conception to the silver screen. These days, more and more artists are turning to online creative communities to source funding and support for their projects, many of which are outside the scope of traditional studio work. A Cautionary Tail is one such project. Directed by Simon Rippingale, and based on a children’s story by Erica Harrison, the animated film has already managed to raise over $40,000 on Kickstarter, and is seeking to raise another $40,00 to see it through lighting and composition, and post-production.

The story follows the journey of a girl born with a tail that expresses her emotions, and the unfolding narrative is about learning to treasure the things that make us unique. With a star-studded cast including Cate Blanchett, David Wenham and Barry Otto, it’s no wonder the short film has garnered such support so far. Next week sees it gain another supporter in the form of art scene golden boy Joseph Allen Shea, who has curated an immersive exhibition of characters, dreamscapes, stills and miniature sets from the film.

The exhibition will also feature an auction of sets and stills, plus the chance to hop in the recording booth with David Wenham, with 10% of proceeds going to the National Youth Mental Health Foundation. Whether you’re a film buff, an art lover, a model-maker or animator, or just in it for the good cause, don’t miss A Cautionary Tail: Pop Up Exhibition.
