MARK STEWART – THE POLITICS OF ENVY

Mark Stewart’s (originally of The Pop Group) new release The Politics Of Envy is compelling. The sounds are so diverse. It could be that the listener can take what interests and engages their listening palette, or that the melding of styles could crown each of the elements at play. The sound is unique. The sounds might be very difficult to wrap your head around without listening to it. An industrial and edgy style of hip-hop slash dance foundation. Something like a Nine Inch Nails meets The Presets. The finesse and detail is added by a dark disco/funk and intentionally jarring pop. I’m not sure if a sentence has ever contained the artists David Bowie and Machine Gun Fellatio before but you just read it. Throw in a tonne of post punk like attitude and anti-establishment like political under tones. It sounds like it could end up a huge mess with all these ideas coming together but Mark Stewart is a recording artist with a lot of confidence , direction, determination and experience. The Politics Of Envy is a real experience to listen to.
