With weather as it has been, spare a thought for your usual waterfront favourites. And remember, with people forgoing the shore, parking’s never been so sweet! Enter this long, waterfront space by boardwalk or through Luna Park’s ever-gaping mouth. Inside décor is muted, to ensure you’re attentive to the commanding view. It’s surprisingly therapeutic, even painted grey, or maybe that’s just the drinks? The Peruvian Plum ($16) is a well-integrated mix of Peruvian Pisco, plum conserve, lime, Riesling, kaffir lime and elderflower cordial. It jumps out on an interesting list designed by Mitchell Oldfield. You might have met him under icier conditions across the harbour at Lenin Bar. Mitch loves “inventing new and stylish drinks” with an eye to food matching. Test his mettle against a Seafood Plate ($18/head) boasting crunchy school prawns, Atlantic scallops, Coffin Bay oysters, Mediterranean fish soup and moulded blue swimmer crab mousse. It’s good but fish mains prove better. I adore Grilled Ocean Trout ($30) against caramelised beetroot puree, fennel, mandarin and sorrel; though cauliflower pakoras and turmeric potatoes also made Seared Swordfish ($30) inviting. The relaxed informality of staff is clearly welcomed by those dining with kids, and the small folk will probably enjoy collapsing a retro-chic Summer Berry Pudding ($12) as much as I did.
