Letter: More cycleways on the cards for city
Dear Editor,
Your last issue (‘More cycleways on the cards for city’, 7 July 2011) mentioned a Twitter backlash to the Sydney bike network, referring to a trending topic “Sydney Can’t Afford Clover Moore.“
I was surprised, so I went looking for more information. Google turned up just one reference, a link to your Alternative Media Group website.
A trending topic is one mentioned so many times by Twitter users that it is “trending” up, i.e. an ever increasing number of people are mentioning it. The top 10 trending topics appear on a side bar on the website.
In fact, the only trending topic related to the Sydney bike network that week was “#SaveSydBikes.”
An overwhelming number of Sydneysiders tweeted their experience riding to work, taking their children to soccer games, encouraging nervous partners onto bikes, and safely getting around the city on the separated cycleways – and most were tagged #savesydbikes.
