REFUGEE FILM FESTIVAL

REFUGEE FILM FESTIVAL

According to the United Nations convention, a refugee is: A person who owing to a well-founded fear of being persecuted for reasons of race, religion, nationality, membership of a particular social group or political opinion, is outside the country of his nationality. Australia is party to this convention, which goes on to protect the rights of these refugees to seek asylum, and yet if you believed the rhetoric spun by government, Stop The Boats campaigners, or even every second Today Tonight special, you might begin to think otherwise. The Refugee Film Festival aims to skew the screen-time in a slightly more positive direction, as well as provide support, rehabilitation, and education, with heartfelt shorts including Burma to Brisbane, Voices of Afghanistan, Amadi, Passport Photos and more.
