ORANGE FLOWER WATER

ORANGE FLOWER WATER

Two families are broken apart when the wife from one and the husband of the other begin a passionate affair. Orange Flower Water is reminiscent of Harold Pinter’s Betrayal or Andrew Bovell’s Speaking in Tongues. It’s a story that has been done before and will be done again. Infidelity; marriage breakdowns; parents who resent their kids may not seem like the recipe for a fun night out but there are some poignant moments and funny dialogue that counteract this bleak look at what it means to say, “I do.” The casting is a bit hit or miss and the star of the show is Logie-award winning Amy Mathews who plays Cathy. Playwright Craig Wright, who is known for his writing work on Six Feet Under, has a Masters in Divinity and the theological references bring an added layer to the ‘betrayal’ plotline. Your husband may not know you’re having an affair, but God does.
