MUSIC: FOURPLAY

FourPlay defy convention. Made up of mates who met in the Australian Youth Orchestra, this once traditional string quartet threw caution to the wind back in 95 and did a Dylan by going electric. Distortion pedals and pickups were brought in, and FourPlay was born. Drawing inspiration from all musical alleys, including rock, pop, dub, jazz, klezmer, swing and folk-tronica, they cover songs by all manner of musos – from the Beastie Boys to Charles Mingus – as well as performing their own original works. FourPlay are set to tear up the Notes Live stage on May 21. And considering they’re as well known for their charismatic live shows as they are their incredible musical talent, this is a gig with a difference that’s worth checking out.

May 21, 7pm, Notes, 75 Enmore Road, Enmore, $25.50 or dinner & show $49, oztix.com.au, 1300 762 545
