Concert hopes to end killings

Sydney have joined in solidarity to support the women of Juarez, Mexico, demanding an end to the killing spree that has seen hundreds of women murdered in violent, unsolved crimes.

A special fundraising concert will be held at Eastside Arts, Uniting Church, Paddington, on March 13 at 7.30pm, presenting some of Sydney’s most vibrant entertainment.

The concert will feature Jeannie Lewis (whose career spans 40 years and seven solo albums), Los Cuervos and the Mexican Dance Group of Australia, My Sauce Good with Laura Brozky, Dirk Kruithof and Veren Grigorov, as well as Beata Robins and her group Quimbombo which on the night will feature many of Sydney’s most accomplished Latin masters: Dan Wallace on keyboard, Julian Gough on soprano sax, and Chris Fields and father on timbales and congas.

Sydney Action For Juarez (SAfJ) is part of a global initiative to raise awareness about the senseless murder of women in Juarez. The group has joined an initiative by Mexican group Artivism, which has issued an international call (“A Prayer for Juarez”) for culture-based activities in March to remember the victims of anti-woman violence and brutality in Juarez.

On International Women’s Day, March 6, Sydney women marched to protest the mass sexual violence against women in Mexican border towns.

Concert for Juarez: No More Femicide will be held at the Uniting Church Hall, 395 Oxford Street, Paddington on March 13.
