Wharf Lunch
The lovely folk at King Street Wharf showed me just how spoiled for choice you can be if you choose a wharf-side lunch. After parking in their conveniently located parking station (1 Shelley Street), I dined progressively across a number of stylish venues. The standouts were the wonderful wine selection at Eleven Kitchen & Cellar; hearing the story behind the cow-milk laksa at Malaya (forty five years ago, coconut milk was impossible to find in Sydney); a wonderful steak and a discussion about grass-fed beef at Steersons Steakhouse; and trying every single one of the desserts on offer at Nick’s Bar & Grill. Design-a-Lunch
Following last year’s successful launch, Taste of Sydney will be on again on the Brazilian Fields in Centennial Park from March 11-14, 2010. This time they will have three new star attractions – Guillaume at Bennelong, Aria and El Toro Loco. Create your own outdoor degustation from dishes like Matt Moran’s slow roasted Moran Family Lamb Spit Roast; Guilluame Brahimi’s Mini Sandwich with Blue Swimmer Crab and Coriander Mayonnaise (I adore these); and the handsome Spaniard’s eponymous Paella Maestre. Intersperse dishes from last year’s returning favourites – Longrain, Becasse and Assiette. Plus there’s wine, food producers and music. It’s an all-in-one experience with sixteen of Sydney’s best restaurants!

Share-a-Lunch
Get to know your workmates in the tastiest way possible this March by holding A Taste of Harmony lunch. The idea is each person should bring a dish that reflects their cultural background to share, so as well as creating a positive experience of cultural diversity in the workplace, you’ll also have a multicultural feast to enjoy! If you register your workplace you might even win a visit and Spanish cooking class from media darling  Miguel Maestre, who is currently cooking up a Spanish storm at El Toro Loco in Manly.

Extend-a-Lunch
The seventeenth annual Lovedale Long Lunch is a lunch worth marking down in your diary, especially if you plan on making a weekend of it anywhere near the Hunter Valley. It’s on May 15th and 16th 2010, and as the biggest regional food and wine event in NSW, it is anticipated that it will attract more than 18,000 visitors! So hop to reserving a bed and drink the Hunter Valley’s best wines with abandon as you sup on dishes like Allandale Winery’s Malaysian Prawn and Calamari Curry.

Late Lunch
What afternoon couldn’t be brightened by a flight of three wines served up with a dish designed to show them off? Sepia Sommelier Rodney Setter has “selected wines that aren’t currently the most popular styles but have wonderful potential for the Australian palate”. Chef Martin Benn will provide the culinary magic, creating each dish to complement and contrast. I’m itching to try three Chenin Blancs with an Antipasto of Serrano Jamon with Aged Reggiano and Balsamic Cherries. Available from Tuesday to Friday after 3pm ($45 per person).
