DANCE: HAPPY AS LARRY

DANCE: HAPPY AS LARRY

Want to be Happy as Larry? According to Shaun Parker, “Doing things in your life that you really love, as much as possible, [and] surrounding yourself with your family and friends” is a great place to start. Parker returns to the Sydney Festival in 2010 with Happy as Larry, following on from his successful 2008 performance, This Show is About People. It’s an energetic, contemporary dance piece that, through the use of the Enneagram model, playfully explores what makes us happy and features an original, improvised score by Nick Wales (Coda) and Bree van Ryk (Holly Throsby/Darren Hanlon). As director and choreographer, Parker ensures he’s not limited by his own creativity and vision but embraces the opportunity to collaborate with his dancers. “If I had a different group of dancers it’d be a very different piece but it’s about their observations of society as well… it’s not just me dictating.” History will show that that never makes anyone happy.
