GIG: DIPLO

GIG: DIPLO

Diplo is, quite simply, a genius. Largely responsible for our recent romance with Brazilian Baile funk and dancehall, founder of the Hollertronix DJ collective and awesome Mad Decent label, and thrower of one hell of a party, the Philadelphian native is bringing his infectious set to Australia this summer. Joining Diplo and rapper Amanda Blank at their Metro gig on Jan 8th is some local artists from the Heaps Decent network. Heaps Decent, founded by Australian DJs Andrew Levins and Nina Agzarian, with the help of our man Diplo, is a transnational network of musicians, producers, promoters and other industry types committed to finding and developing musically inclined indigenous and underprivileged youth from around the country. With a bit of help from festival promoters Fuzzy, Heaps Decent has been running workshops with Surry Hills’ Key College since 2008. Some of the local talent they’ve dug up will be appearing at the Metro gig, including Last Kinection, Radical Son, Stunna Set, On Track and D Minor, one of the students from Key College. As if Diplo wasn’t enough, he has found, trained and launched proteges, ensuring both your dancing shoes and your social conscience will be partying at the Metro. Remember, it’s Diplo – when you kill someone, you kill someone for fun! Resistance is futile. Start working on your moves.
