Outstanding biotech expert to speak in Sydney this Wednesday

On Wednesday December 2nd, the Institute for Sustainable Solutions will be hosting noted international environmental lawyer Han Somsen as the guest presenter of the 2009 Focus on the Future lecture. Dealing with issues that transect ecology, law, innovation, and technology, the lecture is to be titled Before We Fast Forward.

Visiting from the Netherlands, Somsen’s credentials are vast. Among other achievements and postings, he is founder and editor of the Yearbook of European Environmental Law for Oxford University Press, and series editor of Edward Elgar’s Law & Biotechnology Series. He is also the founder and editor-in-chief of the refereed Journal Law, Technology and Innovation.  He is also Director of the Tilburg Institue of Law, Technology, and Society.

Perhaps more importantly, however, he is a charismatic, entertaining, and very forward-looking speaker. These traits, his legal insight, and his familiarity with backroom biotech research negotiations at the highest level have seen him in demand as both an educator and consultant at several universities and facilities around the world, including Canada, the UK, and Australia.

Anybody interested in the how environment, health, food, and security will interact with commercial, cultural, informational and nanotechnological landscapes of the future would do well to attend Law Lecture  Theatre 26 at the new law building, Sydney University on the abovementioned date.

Drinks will be served from 5:30, with the main lecture running from 6:00 to 7:00 pm. Enquiries should be directed to the Institute on 9036 6046.
