SupaNova for supa fun

SupaNova for supa fun

It’s time for geeks, nerds, fanboys and fangirls to unite and celebrate their eclectic passions: SupaNova

This event – the Big Day Out of comic books, Sci-Fi, gaming, TV and pop culture – will be held at The Dome in Olympic Park from June 26 to 28.

SupaNova travels the country: In Sydney this year, attending celebrities will include Karl Urban (‘Bones’ McCoy from Star Trek, Eomer from Lord of the Rings), Rachelle Lefevre from Twilight fame and Stanislav Ianevski (Viktor Krum the Quidditch player from Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince).

Ray Park (Darth Maul – Star Wars Episode 1) has been waylaid from duties on Heroes, but it has been announced that Jake Lloyd – who played Anakin Skywalker in the same movie – will replace him.

SupaNova fan Amanda Young said: “I’m a fan of Manga and comic books, so for me, it’s about seeing some of those characters step off the papers and into real life.”

This is a big thing for most fans. But for many the event is also where the weird and wacky come together for a chance to shine as brightly as the stars they emulate. Punters are encouraged to dress up as their favourite characters from whatever medium they prefer, sci-fi, Manga or anime (Japanese comics or animation), or even as their favourite movie star.

Organisers say this year’s event looks to be “a blast”. I will definitely be there – keep an eye out for David Tennant’s Dr. Who. And yes, I’ll have my sonic screwdriver with me.
