Pulp is back

Pulp is back

Pulp, the cult show of 2008, returns by popular demand for another big season from May 11.

Directed by Bronte’s Jenny Hope and Marko Mustac, Pulp is a comic foray into the dark world of crime fiction, with a big city detective, a classic femme fatale, and an array of corrupt millionaires, criminal masterminds and desperate henchmen.

Hope welcomed the return season. “This time around we have some fantastic new performers who are joining the original cast so it will be different for everyone. There are also extra scenes, additional music and lots of laughs,” she said.

The pulp novels published from the 1920s to 1950s inspired the production along with characters from film noir.
Pulp is raw, edgy, sexy and screamingly funny. Just think Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall or combine Rodger Rabbit and the Maltese Falcon,” Hope said.

The show combines scripted and improvised comedy as well as audience participation so every performance is unique. It boasts high production values, a multimedia mélange of original pulp genre footage and music, and an extraordinary soundscape created by Tom Lowndes, post-production sound artist for the hit TV series Underbelly.

No wonder David Collins of the Umbilical Brothers has described Pulp as  “enchanting, surprising and adventurous”.
“The characters are so strong and it’s such a full experience, you feel like you’ve jumped right into a fantastic dime-store novel. It’s so much more than impro. I wish there was a new word to describe this art form when it gets raised to this level. An awe-inspiring mix of genre acting and spontaneous theatre.”

So if you’re after a night of wild comedy and brave performances, don’t miss Pulp at The Factory Theatre, Enmore from May 11 to 17. Book on 9550 3666.
