Lotus @ The Galeries

From slickly modern private dining rooms, to texture-rich ceramics and stone, highlighted by natural light flooding into what must have been a difficult u-shaped space, DS17 have taken the lessons of Alpha and outdone themselves. Equally so, in Head Chef Chris Yan’s hands, the now-extensive menu builds upon the ideas germinated in Lotus’s initial Walsh Bay outlet, but far surpasses them.

Food News – New Dining Options

Despite the colder weather inclining us to stay indoors, Sydney’s restaurateurs have been busy diversifying our dining options this winter. I recently popped into Walsh Bay’s Lotus Dumpling Bar for a steamer basket of prawn dumplings and scallop shumai, only to hear they’re kicking things up to the next level with Lotus Galeries opening this month in the heart of the CBD.

Bar Fly: The Gantry Bar

“Thanks for warning me that this place was fancy,” my date snarks as we enter the bar. “I might have ditched my hoodie and Kmart jeans for a dress if I’d have known we were going to posh it up.”

Food News – The Gantry

Walsh Bay has just become a bit more interesting with Pier One Hotel Sydney Harbour revitalising their restaurant space into The Gantry Restaurant and Bar.

The Walsh Bay Arts Festival, the brainchild of Walsh Bay Arts and Commerce, is expected to take place in December. “We’ve had shopfronts empty for seven or eight years because of lack of […]

Lotus Dumpling Bar

Chipping through the brickwork to reveal the Asian heart of Walsh Bay, this new dumpling hot spot is already attracting quite a crowd! The aesthetic is post-industrial Shanghai steampunk, with vintage Edison light globes hanging over a gleaming copper bar, and copper utility pipes echoed in footrests, handrails and shelving.

Walsh Bay fight for recognition to continue

Residents and arts venues in Sydney’s Walsh Bay precinct will continue efforts to have their area officially recognised as a suburb after City of Sydney Council knocked back a proposal to have the area formally renamed as 'Walsh Bay'. A City of Sydney Council meeting last week saw all councillors except Liberal Councillor Shayne Mallard, […]
