As well as tempting us with one of the most unusual high tea services in town in the beautiful dockside surrounds of Aki’s; Chef Kumar Mahadevan has generously joined forces with Masterchef finalist Jimmy Seervai for two big nights of Indian hospitality.

Ithaka Kafeneion

Spanakopita ($6.90) – and probably the best one I’ve tried – joins Rendang, Shanghai Soup Dumplings; Pad Thai and what I’m told will be an Argentinian wine bar in the très cosmopolitan Llankelly Place.

No, I’m not going to complain about gimmicky ideas designed to make us spend more money on our (already) pampered fur-kids. Instead I’m going to tell you that while you’re buying your own cupcakes at Surry Hill’s Sparkle Cupcakery, you can also make Fido very happy with his own bag of ‘Pupcakes’.

Bitton Café & Grocer

Whenever I’m in a five star hotel, I order a club sandwich – it’s my personal yardstick. The Club Sandwich ($16.90) here gives those hotels a run for their money, even on a ballistic Sunday.

Baroque Bistro Patisserie

Let’s not mince words - Pierre Gobert’s macarons are excellent. Cafe Gourmand ($10) gives you a coffee and three ‘flavours of the day’ including the lovely Olive Oil and Vanilla – I’m yet to strike a bad flavour.

This bustling city store quickly dispensed an orderly queue of CBD drones with service kept at a steady clip. It’s not the best pie in Sydney, but there seems to be a level of consistency between stores, and it’s a successful, expanding chain for a reason.
